Hyperopia is more commonly known as far-sightedness, and it happens when light rays do not focus properly, and instead, focus behind the retina. As a result, a person suffering from hyperopia can see objects far away clearly, but not objects which are near to them. 


Hyperopia is often caused by either an eyeball that is too small, or an irregularly shaped eyeball. As such, it is a genetic condition. 


Hyperopia may cause the eye muscles to be strained, and thus, cause headaches. If left unattended, it may even affect one’s work or performance in school. In more serious cases, the drainage structures in the eyes can be inflamed, causing glaucoma. 


As such, it is best to treat hyperopia as soon as it is detected. If you suspect that your child may have hyperopia, do schedule him for a check up as soon as possible.
